NOKIA CRISIS IS a big thing in Finland. In Salo, it is everything.

Eight years ago, the company had 5000 own employees and 1000 temporary employees working for the Salo site, more than 10% of city inhabitants —newborns and grandmothers included. If one counts in all subcontractors and Nokia dependent businesses, the number becomes even more staggering.

At 2012, Nokia announced the shutting down of Salo factory. Three years later, all business units were closed down due to acquisition of Microsoft. In June 2016, Microsoft announced that it is going to stop mobile phone production in Finland.

How come? What now? Then what? Answers are mysteries. This is just an introduction.

Work is in progress.

HER NAME IS Eeva Burman and this is her portrait.

For ninety-two years, a time of twenty-six newborn births, someone from Eeva Burmans family has been keeping shimmering light shining from the homesteads window, in the middle of pitch black forest.

The scenery opens from the hill, rises to a second mound and disappears to a third one. Turn left. Time moves slower than light.

Windows have not been washed since October. It just couldn’t have been done before. In this farm, cleanup is also part of a grieving process.

This is a story, one among countless, about agricultural crisis in Finland.
